Happy Birthday MTV!

On August 1st, MTV turned 25. It went by relatively unnoticed. Maybe it's because MTV has pretty much taken the M out of their name. After they created Real World and all of those other crappy shows, the video got left behind. Don't get me wrong...Beavis and Butthead was funny, Pimp My Ride is one of my guilty pleasures, and who can forget Ken Ober on Remote Control, but MTV's also responsible for giving Tom Green a career and that's just unforgivable.

When MTV was still playing videos, I used to watch it all the time. I used to leave it on just like a radio. Not anymore. But it's nice to go back and visit MTV as it once was. I was poking around their website and found that MTV hasn't completely forgotten their roots. Even though they decided to broadcast their full first day on VH1 Classic (can't waste precious airtime when kids need to see another Real World/Road Rules Challenge), you can find the first hour of broadcast (including some retro commercials) in streaming video. Remember the countdown and the rocket blasting off? Yeah, it's all there. If you want to relive a little of 1981, I highly recommend it.

Alan Hunter, Martha Quinn, Nina Blackwood, JJ Jackson, Mark Goodman...we hardly knew ye.
